Consultation to social workers and managers about complex cases. Consultation is in addition to, and does not replace, supervision from the social worker’s employing agency.

Understanding the attachment styles of maltreated children (which includes neglect and physical, emotional, domestic and sexual abuse) and how the behaviours of an abused child may impact upon carers.

Consultation is for individuals or teams to process the emotional impact of working with children who have been abused.

About

Fiona Jones has worked with children, families and young people for 40 years. Her theoretical base draws upon attachment theory and systemic family psychotherapy. She has 15 years experience in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, providing individual therapy and family therapy for people encountering a wide range of problems.

Throughout her professional life, Fiona has worked with looked after children, with foster carers, birth families and adopters. She has developed a particular skill in working with children and adults who have suffered sexual, emotional or physical maltreatment. 

Fiona has 10 years experience working with Employee Assistance Programme referrals, providing individual and couple counselling by telephone and face to face meetings.

Consultant to care professionalsFiona has experience of working with foster carers and adoptive parents who are adjusting parenting styles to fit with the developmental needs of a vulnerable child. She provides consultation to social workers and carers in the child’s professional care network.

CLASS Child Care TrainerFiona provides courses in communication skills with children; how to understand a maltreated child’s behaviour; understanding of attachment theory and how to promote resilience; and the impact of grief and loss. These courses are for child care staff and carers of looked after children.
